Liza MacKinnon

Liza MacKinnon is a local artist working in a variety of mediums, including printmaking, textiles, mixedmedia, ceramics, letterpress, handmade books, pen and ink and acrylic painting. She landed in Lawrence five years ago and fell in love with the community and the Lawrence Arts Center in particular, spending all her free time in the print and ceramic studios. She has since branched out and started a small business - you may have seen her Boston Terrier Logo on the cards and small gifts for sale at the Community Mercantile and at the Phoenix Gallery downtown. She is a regular participant in shows such as the Bizarre Bazarre, Holiday Art fair, and Art in the Park. Liza has shown her fine art at Krzyz Studio in Kansas City, the Lawrence Public Library, the Lawrence Art Center, and the 1109 Gallery in Lawrence. In addition, Liza opens her home-studio to the public each year for the annual Lawrence ArtWalk in the fall and a Valentine-making extravaganza in early February. Liza has been hosting art and creativity workshops for children and adults for years and is delighted to be working with Lawrence Arts Center as a teacher for the first time.

Liza grew up in Zig Zag Oregon and Boulder Colorado, earning a BS in Geography in 1987 from the University of Colorado. She lived for 20 years in Seattle (with a short 6 months 1n 1991 in Chicago) before moving to Lawrence in 2007. Liza has one daughter and two crazed Boston Terriers and teaches weekly art workshops out of her home studio on Tennessee Street.
