Regional Choreography Festival

Regional Choreography Festival is an annual event held at the Arts Center to advance high-quality dance and emerging choreographers. This event features Philadelphia choreographer, Eleanor Goudie-Averill, in a week long residency working with both Arts Center students as well as many of the best dancers and choreographers in the region. Works in progress will be featured in an open showcase, and the event will culminate in a juried performance of featured companies, artists and new works on Saturday, February 25 in the theater at the Lawrence Arts Center.

Youth Ballet Company

The delightful dancers of the Youth Ballet Company (Ages 8-18), under the artistic direction of Deborah Bettinger will take you on that wonderful childhood journey to Never Never Land, where children can fly and crocodiles have clocks that tick, and Tinker Bell and the children are captured by the mean Captain Hook and his pirates and saved, of course, by Peter Pan--A family event.

Owen/Cox Dance Group

The Owen/Cox Dance Group is an ensemble of professional dancers and musicians dedicated to performing collaborative new works. Founders Jennifer Owen and Brad Cox bring together some of Kansas City's most talented artists, representing a variety of genres, to perform contemporary dance with live music. With diverse backgrounds ranging from the Bolshoi Ballet and the Leningrad Chamber Orchestra, to Alvin Ailey and Dave Brubeck, these dancers and musicians form a highly skilled and multi-faceted corps. The collaborative results speak for themselves: fresh and vibrant new works that are classical in form, but contemporary in expression.

Emergence Concert — A Powerful Evening of Dance

Lawrence Ballet Theatre (Giselle)Advanced Jazz Performance Ensemble

The elegance of the Lawrence Ballet Theatre and the dynamics of the AdvancedJazz Performance Ensemble join to present A Powerful Evening of Dance. Under the artistic direction of Cynthia Crews, the Lawrence Ballet theatre will dance new works by Ms. Crews work and that of several guest artists. Additionally, the company will dance a portion of Giselle, restaged by Cynthia Crews. The high energy dancers of the Jazz Performance Ensemble will perform works by new artistic director Brandi Ensemble will perform works by new artistic director Brandi Green. Ms. Green brings to this company an knowledge of both classical jazz and what’s new in today’s jazz scene.

Dance Students Showcases

We celebrate the dancers and the teachers of the Lawrence Arts Center’s dance program in this exciting weekend of performances. Five different hour-long performances showcase what students have been learning throughout the year, from the youngest to the most advanced dancers. Each showcase is designed to give a sampling of all the levels and styles happening at the Lawrence Arts Center. Highlights include senior solos and performances by our pre-professional Lawrence Ballet Theatre and by the Advanced Jazz Ensemble as part of each showcase.
