Please note that there will be a PARENT INFORMATION MEETING on WEDNESDAY, MAY 23 AT 6 p.m. in the Black Box. This meeting will last less than an hour. Parents will be able to meet most of the staff, hear about the shows, and finish up enrollments. The SYT staff will also present the Theater Education standards we'll be working on during the 'off stage' times.
Please remember that enrollments and permission slips are due by the first rehearsal of each production. Financial arrangements should be made upon enrollment – please apply for financial aid if needed.
Sunflower Scholarships Essay (3-4 paragraphs on “What Theater Means To Me”) deadline for a full scholarship has been extended. All essays are due by 4 p.m., Monday, May 14!! Two full scholarships will be awarded for each show, one for a Lawrence resident and one for someone living and attending school outside of Lawrence.

Summer Youth Theater
A summer of Broadway "between the wars!" Tickets for all shows $9.50 for adults and $6.50 for students/seniors.
For 35+ years, the Lawrence Arts Centerʼs Summer Youth Theater has provided intensive training in all aspects of dramatic theater. Using Broadway musicals, classic dramas and original works, students learn by doing. Performers receive training from professional directors, musical directors, costume designers, stage designers, stage managers, choreographers, actors and dancers. All students who audition receive roles.
3rd thru 8th grade

JUNE
The Wizard of Oz
Royal Shakespeare Version by John Kane with music by Harburg & Arlen
The ‘classic’ Kansas Musical, based in part on the MGM film.
Rehearsals May 29 – June 13 | 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. | Monday thru Friday
Performances: Thursday, June 14 | 7 p.m.
Friday, June 15 | 7 p.m.
Saturday, June 16 | 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
JULY
Cinderella; Or How Pipsqueak the Mouse Became a Stallion
by Will Averill
Based on the classic Fairy Tale that must have been on Broadway sometime, but Will sure knows how to have fun with the story!
Directed by Elizabeth Sullivan
Rehearsals July 2 thru 18 | 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. | Monday thru Friday
Performances: Thursday, Friday July 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m.

A classic depression era comedy.

Come to the Cabaret! The decadence of Berlin in the late 1920’s and early ‘30’s serve as the backdrop for this Broadway classic.

ALL WHO AUDITION WILL BE CAST! ALL AUDITIONEES should bring a short (1 minute or less) monologue (can be a poem or story for younger actors) and 16 bars of a Broadway, movie or pop song. Accompanist will be provided.
The Summer Youth Theater Sunflower Scholarship is funded through the generosity of Anne and David Hollond. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage regional participation and reward quality work and thought from young actors devoted to creating wonderful productions.
